Divorce: My Blessing in Disguise—My Weight-loss Journey

This past year has been such a stressful, painful, emotional rollercoaster that culminated with a gift from God I had not even thought about—my health. I really feel as if I am regaining control of my life. I get stressed, I workout. I never did that before, not consistently.

While I was so focused on trying to save my marriage, I didn’t notice that my marriage was actually toxic to my health. Sure, I loved my husband with all of my heart, but I ate what he ate. I cooked what he craved. I introduced healthy meals that he really did like, but we would always revert to our unhealthy lifestyle. But two weeks ago, I found out that my husband “married” the girl he met online that he says he didn’t cheat on me with (even though she plastered pics of them to together all over the internet). So, as I was going through and deleting photos of my ex-husband and me--us smiling, traveling through Europe and Asia, lounging around the house, I noticed something--a stark difference in my appearance between when he was home and when he was deployed.  When he was deployed, I ate healthier, I walked the dogs longer, even made it to the gym a few times, even though I hated working out at the gym. My face was thinner, I began fitting into my clothes better. Even though I missed him terribly, worried about his safety, slept with the phone and my laptop on the bed just in case he called or popped online, I felt better about myself when he wasn’t around.

Now, I cannot blame my weight-gain on my ex-husband at all. I gained a massive amount of weight when I returned home from Iraq the first time, in mid 2006. Depression and PTSD coupled with the delicious food of Philadelphia, I was in trouble. Especially the spinach-chicken cheesesteaks from Lee’s Deli just across the street from my apartment on 46th and Baltimore Ave. When I came home from Iraq in 2006, I was 145lbs. Two years after being home, I was 175lbs. Before my husband deployed to Afghanistan, I was 210lbs. And at the height of the charade that was our extremely stressful divorce, I was 220lbs.

I began drinking Shakeology and doing the Les Mills Combat two months ago and began Les Mills Pump and doing the Les Mills Challenge last month. I am proud to announce that I am 179lbs and still working out and losing. And I feel so much better about me. This is the way I take my life back. This is the way I take control. So for anyone who has ever lost control of his or her life, fitness and health, come take it back with me. Let’s do this together. Take the challenge with me. Whose with me?

The “Challenge Pack” Challenge:

Pick a fitness challenge pack that fits your fitness goals, make the purchase. The Challenge Pack Challenge lasts for 90 days. What comes in each challenge pack?

  • A fitness program of your choice
  • Tape Measure and Measuring guide/tracker
  • Nutritional guide
  • First 30 day supply of Shakeology of your choice: Chocolate or Vegan Chocolate, Vanilla, Greenberry, and Tropical Strawberry (Vegan)
  • 30 day VIP trial membership to Team Beachbody Club

  • Team Beachbody Membership (free)
  • Purchase a challenge pack of your choice
  • Before pics and pics every 30 days to visually capture your progress (You don’t have to post the pics immediately. I, myself, am still a bit self-conscious, even though I can see the progress I’ve made)
  • A willingness to push yourself and, when you fall down, knowledge that there’s a whole community right here to pull you right back up!

I know it can be pricey, but can you really put a price on how good it feels to get into that sexy dress or your favorite pair of jeans that you haven’t been able to wear in years? Or getting down to a size that you never even thought possible? Can you put a price on reducing the risk of heart disease, diabetes and staving off obesity? Last week, I easily put on a pair of pants that I have not been able to wear for four years! I have a long way to go to be where I want, put the point is, I’m on that journey. I’m taking that path, and I want you to take that journey with me.

Oh, and the first two people to talk to me about purchasing a challenge pack will get $25.00 off their challenge pack. So let’s do this! Let’s do this together!
